Knowing What To Expect When You Quit
Some people call them withdrawal symptoms, but we call them recovery symptoms. That's because your body has natural ways of cleaning out your system. When you have the flu, you feel sick because your body is fighting off the disease and cleaning out your system. When you quit smoking, you feel "recovery symptoms" because your body is cleaning out your system, in just the same way.
These are some of the symptoms you can expect. Not all people feel them, and some people feel them worse than others. The point is, if you know what to expect, you'll be more mentally prepared to deal with them and get you through those times. None of these last forever, and once you get past them, you'll feel as free as you did before you started smoking!
- dry mouth
- cough
- scratchy throat
- irritability
- hunger and weight gain
- trouble sleeping
- dreams about smoking
All these things are normal. Give it some time (like 2-6 weeks). The symptoms will stop, and you'll be an ex-smoker!
